Nkangala District Municipality Bursaries 2027

Nkangala District Municipality is inviting applications for its 2027 bursary programme. The funding is intended to assist eligible students from within the Nkangala municipal area who require financial support to pursue their undergraduate studies.

Preference will be given to students from historically disadvantaged backgrounds who demonstrate financial need and plan to study full-time at a recognised public tertiary institution in South Africa.

Applicants should note that the bursary does not provide funding towards existing or outstanding student debt.

Fields of Study

Funding will primarily be considered for undergraduate qualifications in the following areas:

  • Architecture
  • Civil Engineering
  • Disaster Management
  • Environmental Management
  • Finance
  • Information Technology Engineering, including Robotics and Software Development
  • Law
  • Mining Engineering
  • Regional and Town Planning
  • Social Sciences

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for consideration, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens.
  • Be between 17 and 35 years old.
  • Reside within the Nkangala District Municipality in Mpumalanga.
  • Be a resident of one of the following local municipalities: Dr JS Moroka, Emakhazeni, Emalahleni, Steve Tshwete, Thembisile Hani or Victor Khanye.
  • Come from a historically disadvantaged background.
  • Be currently completing Matric or have already obtained a Matric qualification.
  • Be studying or planning to study full-time towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the approved fields.
  • Attend, or intend to attend, a recognised and accredited public tertiary institution in South Africa, including a university, university of technology or TVET college.

Academic Requirements

Current university students must have obtained a minimum overall average of 60% for the 2026 academic year.

Students studying at a TVET college must have achieved a minimum overall average of 50% for the 2026 academic year.

Applicants currently in Matric should provide their Grade 11 final results together with their latest Matric results, where available.

Financial Requirements

Applicants must be able to demonstrate genuine financial need.

The combined annual household income must not exceed R180,000.

Successful bursary recipients will also be required to enter into a contractual agreement with Nkangala District Municipality.

Documents Required

Applicants must complete the official bursary application form and submit it together with the relevant supporting documentation.

Required documents include:

  • Certified copy of South African ID.
  • Proof of residence.
  • Proof of household income.
  • Academic records.
  • Proof of acceptance at a tertiary institution, where available.
  • Motivational letter explaining the applicant’s reasons for applying.
  • Current Matric applicants must provide their Grade 11 final results and latest Matric results.
  • Applicants who have completed Matric must provide their Matric certificate.
  • Students currently enrolled at a tertiary institution must submit their latest academic record on the institution’s official letterhead.

Bursary Closing Date

The closing date for applications is 30 October 2026 at 13:30.

Late applications will not be considered, so applicants are encouraged to submit their completed applications and supporting documents before the deadline.

Only applicants who are shortlisted will be contacted regarding the outcome of their applications.

If you do not receive any communication, you should regard your application as unsuccessful.

Please note that the bursary does not cover any outstanding student debt.
