Job Description

An established non-profit welfare organisation based in Johannesburg is seeking a dedicated Social Worker to oversee the holistic wellbeing of adult residents within a structured residential care facility. This permanent, full-time position requires the successful candidate to work on-site from Monday to Friday, providing vital psychosocial support and ensuring vulnerable individuals receive compassionate, high-quality care. Operating within a multidisciplinary framework, the role ensures that the emotional, mental, and psychological needs of all residents are met systematically while maintaining absolute regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed psychosocial assessments and manage ongoing clinical casework to support the mental and social health of residents.
  • Formulate, execute, and systematically review individualised care and intervention strategies to deliver personalised resident support.
  • Facilitate therapeutic support groups, deliver individual counselling sessions, and manage crisis interventions when necessary.
  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary team meetings to coordinate holistic care and contribute to integrated institutional care planning.
  • Act as the primary liaison between families, internal operational departments, and external specialized support services.
  • Engage directly with regulatory bodies, specifically the Department of Social Development (DSD) and Department of Health (DOH), ensuring adherence to legislative mandates and professional ethical codes.
  • Maintain comprehensive, accurate case records, statutory reports, and statistical documentation in strict alignment with organisational governance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work.
  • Active, current registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP).
  • 3 to 5 years of relevant professional experience within a social services or residential care environment.
  • Strong professional communication, administrative report-writing, and crisis-management abilities.
  • Demonstrated capability to collaborate effectively within an integrated multidisciplinary team.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for clinical reporting and record-keeping.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with elderly populations or individuals experiencing cognitive decline.
  • Practical background in behavioural management models and institutional care planning.
  • Previous experience operating within the mental health or disability care sectors.
  • A valid South African driver’s licence.
