Job Description

Macsteel is offering a 12-month structured internship programme aimed at providing graduates with practical workplace exposure within its logistics and supply chain environment. The internship is designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world business operations, allowing interns to gain hands-on experience in either Shipping Operations or Demand Planning.

Interns will work closely with experienced professionals and support daily operational activities, administrative processes, reporting, and coordination functions. The programme focuses on developing technical skills, analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and professional workplace conduct within a large industrial and manufacturing organisation.

This internship is ideal for graduates who are eager to build a career in logistics, supply chain management, operations, or business planning, and who are looking to gain valuable exposure in a fast-paced corporate environment.

Internship Streams Available:

Intern – Shipping Operations

Interns in the Shipping stream will assist with the coordination and administration of outbound and inbound logistics activities, ensuring that customer orders are processed efficiently and accurately.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with the processing and capturing of sales and shipping orders
• Support the preparation and management of shipping documentation
• Maintain and update transport rate registers
• Track shipments and liaise with internal departments and transport providers
• Perform general administrative and clerical duties within the logistics team
• Ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with internal procedures

Minimum Requirements – Shipping:
• National Diploma or Degree in Logistics, Shipping, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field
• Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal)
• Basic computer literacy, including MS Excel and MS Outlook
• Ability to work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines
• Willingness to commit to a full 12-month internship programme

Intern – Demand Planning

The Demand Planning intern will support forecasting, planning, and data analysis activities to help ensure optimal stock levels and efficient supply chain operations.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist with demand forecasting and planning processes
• Collect, analyse, and interpret sales and demand data
• Support the preparation of planning reports and dashboards
• Assist in monitoring stock levels and identifying trends
• Collaborate with supply chain, sales, and operations teams
• Maintain accurate data records and support continuous improvement initiatives

Minimum Requirements – Demand Planning:
• National Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Economics, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field
• Strong analytical and numerical skills
• Proficiency in MS Excel and basic data analysis tools
• Good attention to detail and problem-solving ability
• Ability to work well in a team and communicate effectively
• Commitment to a 12-month fixed-term internship

General Requirements (Both Streams):

• South African citizen
• Recently completed a relevant qualification
• Unemployed and seeking workplace experience
