EY South Africa is offering bursaries to academically strong students who intend to qualify as Chartered Accountants.
The programme supports students studying towards a CA qualification at a SAICA-accredited university and offers two different bursary categories depending on academic performance and financial circumstances.
Successful bursary recipients are also required to complete their training contract with EY after their studies.
Types of EY Bursaries Available
EY offers funding through two separate bursary programmes, allowing students to apply according to their academic achievements and personal circumstances.
The available bursary categories are:
- Academic Merit with Financial Need Bursary
- Academic Merit Bursary
Applicants should review the criteria for each option before submitting an application.
Academic Merit with Financial Need Bursary
This bursary takes both academic achievement and financial circumstances into account when assessing applications.
Successful candidates may receive funding towards one or more of the following:
- Tuition fees
- Student accommodation
- Prescribed books
- Meals
The level of support awarded may vary from one student to another, depending on individual circumstances.
Academic Merit Bursary
The Academic Merit Bursary is awarded based primarily on academic performance and achievement.
Funding under this category contributes towards a portion of tuition costs and should not be viewed as a full-cost bursary covering all study-related expenses.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for an EY bursary, applicants must:
- Possess a valid South African ID.
- Be studying towards, or intending to study towards, a Chartered Accountancy qualification.
- Attend a SAICA-accredited university.
- Demonstrate the academic ability required for the CA(SA) career pathway.
- Submit all required supporting documentation.
For applicants applying under the Academic Merit with Financial Need category, financial circumstances will also form part of the evaluation process.
Chartered Accountancy Study Requirement
Applicants must be enrolled in, or planning to enrol in, a Chartered Accountancy programme offered through a SAICA-accredited university.
Students are encouraged to verify that their chosen qualification meets SAICA accreditation requirements before applying for bursary funding.
Work-Back Commitment
Recipients of the EY bursary will be required to complete their training contract with EY after their studies.
The training contract has a minimum duration of:
Three years
Applicants should therefore understand that the bursary is linked to a long-term Chartered Accountancy training and career development pathway within EY.
