The Graduate Trainee position is designed to provide unemployed graduates with valuable workplace experience while contributing to the objectives of the business unit. In this developmental role, the successful candidate will work towards predefined goals while gaining practical exposure and building professional skills within the organisation.
During the programme, the Graduate Trainee will be involved in a variety of tasks such as research, analysis, administrative duties, and supporting process improvements and project activities. These responsibilities are intended to contribute meaningful value to the business area while enabling the trainee to develop their capabilities. Relevant work-related training and guidance will be provided where necessary to support learning and performance.
The role requires a strong commitment to delivering high-quality work across all assigned tasks and projects. The Graduate Trainee will be expected to manage responsibilities effectively through proper planning, timely reporting, and regular progress updates. They will also be encouraged to contribute proactively to team initiatives by sharing ideas, participating in discussions, and collaborating with peers and stakeholders.
In addition, the trainee will be responsible for managing their own development by actively building new skills and competencies through available learning opportunities. All activities must align with and support the shared values and business philosophy of FirstRand Limited.
FirstJob Programme Eligibility Criteria
The FirstJob Programme aims to provide unemployed youth with an opportunity to gain their first meaningful work experience. To be considered, applicants must meet the following requirements:

Be between 18 and 34 years old

Have completed a relevant post-matric qualification

Have been unemployed for at least the past six months

Have little or no prior work experience, defined as less than twelve months of total work experience, including part-time or casual work

This opportunity must represent the candidate’s first formal job experience
Applicants must also not have previously participated in the FirstJob Programme at any FirstRand Limited franchise and must not have been employed by FirstRand before.
